AIMS AND SCOPE

The increasing wealth and complexity of quantitative experimental data across diverse fields—ranging from molecular biology and neuroscience to computational social and natural sciences—demand a system-level understanding. Achieving this requires appropriate modeling frameworks and foundational concepts derived from statistical mechanics, dynamical systems theory, information theory, and machine learning.

An interdisciplinary approach is essential for investigating complex and nonequilibrium phenomena, which are pervasive in living systems. Statistical mechanics provides a principled framework for describing the emergent behaviors that arise across scales from the interactions of elementary components within biological, ecological, or social systems. These phenomena encompass a broad spectrum, from the orchestration of complex genomic functions to the dynamics of information spreading and processing in intricate networks—and beyond.

Our STATPHYS29 satellite meeting aims to explore the ongoing scientific revolution at the intersection of statistical physics and these disciplines. By fostering discussions and collaborations, we seek to advance the understanding of these systems’ functioning and, ultimately, of life itself.
